Aunt / Guide 3

Privacy is part of the product experience

A guide to packaging, billing, account data and shared devices.

Privacy is not just a delivery feature. It continues after the parcel arrives, through storage, charging, app use and disposal.

Make home storage practical

Choose a clean, dry location consistent with the maker’s instructions and keep items out of the reach of children or anyone who should not access them. Store care instructions where you can find them. Avoid mixing materials or products in ways the maker warns against.

Review shared-device habits

A browser account, shared tablet or family notification setting can reveal purchases unexpectedly. Check email previews, saved passwords, autofill and app permissions. Turning off an unnecessary notification is often more useful than assuming an incognito window will manage all traces of an order.

Check what happens when you leave

If a connected product has an account, learn how to revoke access, unpair it and request account deletion. Follow local guidance for battery disposal. Before gifting or transferring any used electronic item, make sure it is appropriate and that stored data or connections are removed.

A note on safety

Do not share account passwords as a substitute for a product’s intended partner-access controls.
